Hello from Walkerhill in north eastern Seoul (I say north because we are north of the Han).
Today, I am at the Chevrolet Captiva SUV Korea ride and drive. It is the media's first time to drive the all-new Captiva. Here are some relevant points I thought you would like to review, following the ride and drive and our press conference.
Mike Arcamone
- its fresh new look gives Captiva a more dynamic presence
- Captiva's 19 inch wheels are largest in segment, and first in segment
- our new powertrains offer better performance while using less fuel
- we have added electric parking brake - a first in its segment in Korea
- it is a quiet SUV with much improved acoustics
- price will be between KRW 25.5 million and 35.8 million
- sales begin April 15
Q: When will gasoline model and different seating variants launch?
Ankush Arora - all variants in all powertrains and all powertrain configurations will begin sales on April 15; the 5 and 7 passenger as well as diesel and gasoline.
Q: What is the new marketing and sales methods to be used for Captiva?
Ankush Arora: With launch of Chevrolet, we have created a new brand promise and we will use this in our sales and marketing strategies with Captiva. We want customers to touch, feel and drive Captiva.
Q: Is this vehicle a Winstorm?
Ankush Arora. Absolutely not! This vehicle is not a
Winstorm. It is better. Better powertrain, enhanced interior, quieter ride, and dynamic Chevrolet exterior. This is a completely new product. It is so quiet, that we will market it to sedan customers too because we are confident they will enjoy the quiet ride along with the positive attributes and usefulness that an SUV has to offer.
Q: Please explain the design differences between Captiva and Winstorm.
Taewan Kim: The vehicle has a new heart. The powertrain is its heart. The styling is refreshing and aggressive. The exterior gives it a very confident look and feel. Just look at the Chevy grill to see the confident stance of the Captiva. On the interior, we moved from a vertical look to a horizontal look. Our interior has four trim levels and it is not only more comfortable than Winstorm, but much more inviting and warmer.
Q: Will the 2.2 L engine be domestically produced?
Mike Arcamone: Yes, the 2.2m L Diesel is being produced in Gunsan.
Q: In 2013, will the next generation SUV responsibility be in Germany or Korea?
Mike Arcamone: We have not made any announcement about the timing of our next generation SUV, nor do we have one planned. Today's focus is on Captiva, not on rumors or speculation.
DY Sohn: The 2013 or 2014 timing of our next generation SUV is just a rumor. Nothing more.
Q: I could not hear any idle noise. You did a great job on isolation of noise.
Mike Arcamone: We reduced vehicle noise so that consumers will really hear the difference.
DY Sohn: In Winstorm, we worried about the noise, so we upgraded the prime injection system and modified the tuning source. The prime injection strategy is brand new to the vehicle and it will make a big difference in what consumers - won't hear.
Q: What is your carbon strategy with Captiva?Ankush Arora: Our strategy is not just for a single vehicle, but must involve the whole fleet. We want to be a leader in government emissions initiatives and strategies.
That's it from the ride and drive. I have to run as media are beginning to leave our event to file their stories and I want to say good-bye to them.
Cheers,
Jay
