지엠대우의 신임 마이크 알카몬 사장이 추석 연휴기간중에 한국에 도착합니다. 한국에 도착하기에 앞서 여러번 신임 사장님과 통화도 해보고 이메일도 주고 받았습니다. 한국에 도착해 지엠대우에서의 근무를 시작하기만 기다리고 있다고 합니다. 아래 서한은 신임 마이크 알카몬 사장이 직접 작성해서 금일 임직원들에게 보낸 것입니다. 그가 어떤 사람인지 앞으로 취임후 100일간 집중과제가 무엇이 될지를 보여 줍니다.

Dear All,
Mike Arcamone arrives in Korea during this holiday weekend. I have talked with him several times this week and exchanged many emails with him. He is eager to get started and cannot wait to get to Korea and GM Daewoo. This letter, written by Mike, was sent to all employees today. It gives you a glimpse of who Mike is and what is focus is going to be over the next 100 days.

안녕하세요, 지엠대우 오토앤테크놀로지 사장 마이크 아카몬입니다.
공식적으로는 내일 10월 1일부터 업무를 시작하게 되었습니다.
가장 먼저, 블로그를 통해 한국 소비자 여러분과 만나게 되었네요. 간단하게 제 소개를 하겠습니다. 저는 캐나다에서 태어나 1980년부터 General Motors에서 일을 시작했습니다. 지난달까지 유럽에서 근무했지요.
한국에 대해 좀 더 많은 것을 알아야겠지만, 그간 한국 방문을 통해 인상 깊었던 점을 말씀 드리죠.
한국은 동아시아의 오랜 전통을 지녔으면서도 매우 역동적인 국가로 알고 있습니다. 최첨단과 풍부한 역사가 함께 공존하는 흥미 있는 곳이랄까요? IT, 전자 및 기계 산업이 매우 발전해, 지엠대우를 비롯한 몇몇 세계 최고의 기업들이 한국에 기반을 두고 있습니다. 세계 최고의 부품업체 몇몇도 역시 한국에 근거지를 두고 있죠. 문화와 전통, 그리고 역사 또한 사람들의 일상에 있어 매우 중요한 일부분이죠. 저는 한국과 한국인에 대해 더욱 많은 것을 알고 싶습니다. 여러 면에서 저의 새 직책은 저에게 많은 것을 배울 수 있는 경험이 될 것입니다. 한국을 배우고 이해하는 한편, 저는 궁극적으로 한국의 일부가 되기를 진정 원합니다.
General Motors의 일원으로서 차량개발 및 생산의 중요 거점인 지엠대우를 몇 차례 방문했었는데 지엠대우가 새로운 General Motors에 있어 더욱 중요한 역할을 하게 될 것이라 점을 말씀 드리고 싶습니다. 최근에 선보인 마티즈 크리에이티브와 라세티 프리미어는 한국 소비자들뿐만 아니라 다른 국가의 소비자들도 흥분시키기에 충분히 뛰어난 제품이라고 생각합니다.
조만간 한국의 우리의 소중한 고객, 기자들 그리고 열정적인 지엠대우의 직원들을 만나게 될 것을 생각하면 많은 기대가 됩니다. 저는 지엠대우가 좋은 제품뿐만 아니라 새롭고 창의적인 효익을 고객에게 제공하는 “더 좋은 회사”라는 평판을 얻기 위해 전력을 다할 것이라는 점을 약속 드리고 싶네요. 그러기 위해 더 자주 여러분을 만나고 이야기를 주고받기를 희망합니다.
10월 3일은 한국 최대 명절 가운데 하나인 ‘추석’이라고 알고 있습니다. 제가 살던 곳의 추수감사절과 같이 가을의 수확에 대해 감사하는 의미가 있다고 들었습니다. 여러분과 가족 모두 즐거운 추석 맞으시기 바라며, 저는 연휴 뒤에 많은 분들을 만날 예정입니다.
아름다운 날씨와 함께 가족, 사랑하는 사람들과 재회의 기쁨을 즐기시기를, 그리고 무엇보다도 안전하고, 행복하고 건강한 추석명절이 되기를 기원합니다.

Happy Chuseok! From GM Daewoo’s New President and CEO, Mike Arcamone”
Hi. This is Mike Arcamone, the new president and CEO of GM Daewoo. Well, almost the new president and CEO. Officially, I get the title tomorrow, on October 1.
I wanted to take advantage of this interim period to meet Korean consumers through this blog. Therefore, please permit me to introduce myself. I was born in Canada and began working for General Motors in 1980. Most recently, I worked for GM in Europe until last month.
I recognize that I have a lot to learn about Korea, but let me tell you what has struck me on my many visits to this country.
Korea has a well-earned reputation for being very dynamic and having East Asia’s oldest traditions. It is an interesting place that is cutting edge on one hand and steeped in history on the other. Korea’s IT, electronics and machinery industries are very developed. Some of the best companies in the world call Korea “home”, including GM Daewoo. Some of the best automotive suppliers in the world are located here as well. At the same time, I know that culture and tradition and history play an important part in everyone’s lives. I look forward to learning more about Korea and Koreans. In many respects, my new job will be an educational experience for me. I look forward to learning, understanding and becoming a part of Korea.
I have visited Korea several times in the past, as GM Daewoo has taken on a core role in vehicle production and development for General Motors. Let me tell you right from the start that GM Daewoo will play an even more important role in the new General Motors Company. The recently launched Matiz Creative and Lacetti Premiere are very notable products that we believe will satisfy not only Korean but also other countries’ consumers.
I am very excited to have the chance to meet our loyal customers, journalists and very passionate GM Daewoo employees. I plan to make every effort to build GM Daewoo’s reputation as a “better company” that provides not only good products but also new and creative benefits to our customers. For this, I look forward to hearing your thoughts and opinions.
I know that October 3rd is Chuseok, one of the major holidays in Korea. I’ve also learned that it is a kind of Korean Thanksgiving to celebrate and give thanks for the good harvest in autumn. I hope you and your families have a wonderful Chuseok. I will do my best to meet as many of you in person as possible after the holidays.
In the meantime, I wish you all a wonderful Chuseok holiday. Please enjoy this spectacular weather and reconnecting with your families and loved ones. Above all, please have a safe, happy and healthy holiday.
