아카몬 사장은 한 시간 넘게 한국 언론과 이야기를 나눴습니다. 아래는 제가 생각하는 키 포인트들 입니다.
산업은행과 지엠대우의 유동성
“산업은행에 대해서 이야기 하는 것은 이번이 마지막입니다”
아카몬 사장에게 이 질문이 지겹다는 것은 확실했습니다. 아카몬 사장은 티트로이트 모터쇼에 참석한 언론에게 지엠대우의 자금흐름에는 문제가 없으며 충분한 유동성을 확보했다고 말했습니다. “우리는 작년 비용절감으로 수천억원을 아꼈습니다. 또한 지엠으로부터 약 5000억 정도의 자금 지원을 받았으며 늘어난 수출과 내수 판매로 지엠대우는 재무적으로 안전한 단계에 들어섰습니다” 아카몬 사장의 생각은 산업은행이슈는 이미 “끝난” 이야기이며 우리는 더 이상 어떤 재정적인 도움도 필요하지 않고, 또한 도움을 요청한 적도 없습니다. 아카몬 사장은 한 발 더 나아갔습니다. “제가 산업은행이라면 지금 굉장히 기쁠 것입니다. 지엠대우는 12개월만에 산업은행으로부터의 도움없이 더욱 탄탄한 회사가 되었으니까요. 우리는 계속 제품을 출시하고 있고, 수출은 늘어나고 있습니다. 내수판매는 최근 4달 동안 계속 늘어나고 있으며, 창원과 군산공장은 현재 쉴 틈 없이 가동되고 있습니다. 저의 2010년 목표는 지엠대우 자금 측면에 있어서의 자급자족입니다”
즉, 저는 아카몬 사장이 산업은행에게 주는 메시지를 이렇게 생각합니다. “우린 괜찮습니다. 관심 가져주셔서 감사합니다”
노동조합
“노조와 조화로운 관계를 맺길 원합니다”
취임한지 얼마 지나지 않았지만, 아카몬 사장은 적극적으로 지엠대우 노조와의 소통에 노력을 기울여 왔습니다. “한 달에 한번 추영호 위원장을 만날 것입니다. 또한 직원들도 정기적으로 만나서 그들의 이야기를 듣고, 문제점들을 이해하려 노력하겠습니다” 휴가 바로 다음날, 추 위원장을 만났습니다. 다음날 저와 추 위원장은 2시간동안 부평공장 직원들과 만나 이야기를 나눴습니다”
아카몬 사장이 우선적으로 해야 할 일은 노조와의 관계를 더욱 튼튼하게 하는 것입니다. 저는 아카몬 사장이 좋은 출발을 했다 라고 생각합니다.
지엠대우는 지엠의 글로벌 시장에서의 성공에 중요한 열쇠입니다.
마지막으로 아카몬 사장은 이번 디트로이트 모터쇼에 전시된 7개의 중요차량 중에서 3대가 지엠대우에서 디자인,개발, 생산되었다는 사실을 상기시켰습니다. “지엠대우는 이 성과에 대해 매우 기뻐해야 합니다. 이는 지엠대우의 기술과 끈기 그리고 재능을 말해주는 것입니다. 우리의 성공은 지금 세상이 볼 수 있습니다. 전 세계가 우리의 디자인, 엔지니어링 그리고 생산역량을 볼 수 있습니다”
완벽히 동의합니다. 아카몬 사장이라면 지금까지의 성과는 이제 겨우 시작일 뿐이다 라는 느낌을 받습니다.

"Positive liquidity, the KDB, our Union, and GM Daewoo"
President Arcamone spent more than an hour today talking with Korean media. Here are some key points as far as I am concerned.
KDB and our liquidity
"This is the last time I am going to discuss KDB."
President Arcamone was pretty clear that he is tiring of this question. He told media that GM Daewoo had moved to positive cash flow and had positive liquidity. "We saved several hundred million dollars in our 2009 cost reduction strategy, and it combined with GM's October cash infusion of $450 million, and increased sales (export and domestic) have GM Daewoo on firm financial footing." As far as President Arcamone is concerned, the KDB is a "closed issue" and we do not need any financial help nor "have we asked for it.". President Arcamone went even further stating, "If I was KDB I would be extremely pleased that in 12 months, without any help from the bank, GM Daewoo has become stronger. We are launching products, exports are trending up, domestic sales are up month over month for four months and two of our facilities - Changwon and Gunsan - are running over capacity. My goal for 2010 is self-sufficiency for GM Daewoo.".
In short, I think what the president's message to the KDB is: "we fine, thanks for asking."
Labor Union
"I want to have harmonious relations with our Union".
In the short time he has been head of our company, President Arcamone has really been proactive with his communications with our union. "I will meet with Chairman Chu once a month. I will meet with employees regularly to listen to them and understand issues. On the first day back after break, I met with Chairman Chu. The next day he and I spent two hours together with the Bupyeong employees. I asked the employees questions with the Chairman beside me."
President Arcamone's clear priority is to build a much stronger relationship with our union. In my humble opinion, he's off to a great start.
GM Daewoo is key to GM's global success.
Finally, President Arcamone pointed out that 3 of the 7 key vehicles at this auto show were designed, engineered and manufactured by GM Daewoo. "GM Daewoo should be immensely proud of this accomplishment. It highlights the skills, perseverance and talent of our workforce. Our success is on display for the world to see. The whole world can see our design, engineering and manufacturing capabilities."
I could not agree with him more. Under President Arcamone's leadership, I sense that this is just the beginning...
