우즈베키스탄 타슈켄트에서 5일을 보내고 수요일 돌아왔기에 좀 쉬기로 했습니다. 토요일은 한국에서 어버이날이지만, 일요일은 미국의 어머니의 날입니다. 제 아내가 나들이를 원했기에 수원 화성의 성곽을 둘러보며 하루를 보냈습니다. 이 날은 지금까지 우리 가족이 보냈던 최고의 패밀리 데이중 하나였다고 말씀드릴 수 있습니다. 우리는 질펀하게 놀았고, 날씨는 완벽했습니다.
마침내 여름이 시작되었군요!!!!
화성 성곽은 1794년부터 1796년까지 단 2년에 걸쳐 건축되었습니다. 화성의 반경은 5.7km 혹은 3.5마일이며, 우리는 화성을 구석구석 탐방했습니다. 또한 유네스코가 지정한 세계 문화유산이며 만약 아직 가보지 않았다면 관심을 갖고 가보시기 바랍니다. 서울에서 남쪽으로 단 40km 거리이며, 가고 오는데 1.15시간밖에 걸리지 않더군요. 운전하고 갈 만한 충분한 가치가 있습니다.
저는 몇몇 사진을 나누고 싶었습니다. 그래서 시원찮은 사진 실력이지만 이 대단한 성곽을 표현했다고 이해해 주시기 바랍니다.

Hwaseong Fortress
Returned from five days in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on Wednesday and I needed a break. I know that Parents’ Day was celebrated in Korea on Saturday, but Sunday is Mother’s Day in the United States. My wife wanted to have a picnic and spend the day in Suwon at the Hwaseong Fortress. I have to tell you, this was one of the best family days we have ever spent anywhere. We had a blast and the weather was perfect – summer has started: finally!!!!
The Hwaseong Fortress was built in just two years from 1794-1796. It encompasses 5.7 km or about 3.5 miles, and we walked ever inch of it. It is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site and if you have not been, do yourself a favor and go. Located just 40 km south of Seoul, it only took us 1.15 hours to get there and to get home. It is well worth the drive.
